The course of the restore and revision of the Firebird has been a roller coaster ride. From dealing with product reps to mechanics, I have become a little smarter at trusting opinions. One guy fixes this but messes up that, so you have to go to another guy and on and on. The following businesses provided the bright spots in this project. They’re the ones I’d go back to for their particular expertise.
Lucas Oil Ever hear – “You get what you pay for.”? Count on it, and for the buck, Lucas Oil products can’t be beat. After spending the money on this restoration and revision of the Firebird, it only makes sense to protect my investment. Their Super Coolant is in the radiator, and Lucas 10W-30 in the engine. Their customer service is solid.
I believe they are also listed as Automotive Machine and Supply. Tony and his staff are responsible for rebuilding the engine. They do good quality work and have always been able to provide answers and suggestions to my technical… and not so intelligent questions.
Permian Glass The Gaylors have been in business in Odessa-Midland for several years. There’s a reason they are still here. After trying to cut a corner and having a bad experience with a windshield outfit on Grandview, I won’t make that mistake twice. I’m glad I went to Permian Glass for the replacement of the driver’s window regulator and installation of the new door panels. Jimmy (father) and Shannon (son) are good honest people. I won’t use anyone else.
Carl Sukowaty and his staff were responsible for installing the rebuilt engine, Hedman headers, Holley street performance carburetor, etc. under the hood. His work is well known, so plan on getting on his waiting list weeks ahead of time. Well worth the wait.
